Vikings torch Heat in Bundaberg T20 cricket

Searle's RV Centre Vikings narrowly defeated Betta Heat by 15 runs in the Bundaberg Cricket Association Aussie Homes T20 competition at Salter Oval on Friday night.

The Vikings made 5/157 off their allotted overs with Shaun Rose (53 off 46 balls) top scoring.

The Heat were short of the target at 7/142 when their 20 overs were completed.

Dale Steele made 38 for the Vikings from 27 balls and Dean Krebs chipped in with 23 from just 11 balls, including a towering six.

Paul Jagger was best of the Heat bowlers with 2/20 from four overs.

The Heat lost an early wicket in reply when Adam Harber was out for 3, bowled by Steele.

Jarrod Laycock was fast out of the blocks, belting 67 runs from 40 balls including three sixes and nine fours.

He put on 58 for the second wicket with Rod Jensen (21), before being caught off the bowling of Cameron Henry (1/18).

The Heat struggled after that and fell 15 runs short.

Viking Chris Napper was erratic with the ball at times, with four wides, but picked up 2/41.

Opening bowler Krebs led the attack and finished with 1/10 in a match-winning performance in a tight contest.

The Takalvan Taipans take on the Parklands Pies on Friday, 8 February at Salter Oval.
