Surfers wait for Oma to deliver big waves

Surfers took to the waves at Bargara today, hoping that Tropical Cyclone Oma would spice up conditions at local beaches.

Although there were some good waves early this morning, lunchtime surfers at high tide were left disappointed as only medium waves were encountered.

The weather bureau has a hazardous surf warning in place for the Fraser Island Coast.

Surf Life Saving Queensland has recommended that people stay away from beaches south of Hervey Bay, but beaches in the Bundaberg Region remain open.

Just like the farmers and gardeners hoping for rain, surfers are hoping that Oma gives at least a little something.

The cyclone watch alert was cancelled earlier today.
