Work is under way to refurbish the John Broadhurst grandstand at the Childers Showgrounds.

Bundaberg company Christensen Industries has been awarded the tender to undertake the $290,000 Council-funded project.

Deputy Mayor Cr Bill Trevor said the work involved removing and replacing the roof, repainting, new signage and installing new handrails in line with compliance requirements.

“The Childers Showgrounds attracts enormous use from the local community with football codes, athletics and school sports utilising the facility on a regular basis,” he said.

“Naturally it is also the site for the annual Childers Show.

“With the Childers Show scheduled for May 25, the contractors are on a tight schedule to ensure the work is completed prior to that date.

“Local user groups and hirers have all be advised that the work is currently under way.

“It is also planned to implement some upgrades to the existing lighting.”

Cr Trevor said the Childers Showgrounds was rated among the best sporting surfaces in country Queensland.
