Community groups and sporting clubs came together to provide a day of fun for Gin Gin’s under 8s.

The Gin Gin Family Fitness Fun Day, held on Wednesday 22 May and hosted by the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre, was well attended by schools and families.

Neighbourhood Centre coordinator Venessa Van Peype said the day was all about giving the children an opportunity to socialise with kids from other schools and have fun at a fair.

“This is a chance for the children to get that experience, see children from other schools and find out more about other service providers that can support them such as BUSHKids,” Venessa said.

“They get the chance to meet with each other and get that social connection that’s sometimes missing in a small town.”

The Fun Day was filled with various activities such as crafts, games, sporting activities, a jumping castle and even face painting.

“Children enjoyed games and lawn bowls and we have the library here today which is really exciting,” Venessa said.

“We’ve got Bundaberg Regional Council sport and rec as well as Queensland sport and rec here.”

At 11am event attendees celebrated simultaneous story time by reading the popular ‘Alpacas with Maracas’ book followed by a dance which the children had painted their own maracas for.

Schools had the opportunity to utilise transport donated by Duffys Buses to get the students to and from the event.

Even the Rural Fire Brigade made an appearance, bringing their trucks to the event.

“It’s WOW day today so the SES are here with Foxy and we’ve got a few other community groups as well,” Venessa said.

The Family Fitness Fun Day wrapped up with a great turnout and beautiful weather.
