The construction of a new car park is well under way at the McDonald's Bundaberg CBD site after an operational works application was recently approved by Bundaberg Regional Council.

Richmond and Ross Pty Ltd were engaged to carry out a site-based stormwater management plan for the proposed car park extension at the existing McDonald's at 46 Targo Street.

Now approved, construction will continue to forge ahead at the lot next to the restaurant.

Planning and development spokesperson Cr Ross Sommerfeld said the car park was about 1670 square metres and would feature up to 28 new parking spaces.

“There will also be a change to the drive-through section, with an increase to the queuing capacity changed to 15 cars and featuring dual lanes,” he said.

The first stage of the car park construction took place in May this year and featured the removal the Salvation Army's former citadel as part of plans to extend the parking area.

Construction of the car park is expected to continue over the next few weeks.
