Rug up in the morning next week as overnight temperatures are expected to plummet.

The Bundaberg Region could have its coldest morning of the year on Monday or Tuesday as an icy blast pushes up from the deep south.

The weather bureau has forecast a minimum temperature of six degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

The lowest so far in 2019 was 5.1 degrees on 15 July — last year on the same date it was 2.6.

Today will be warm and sunny with a maximum of 27 and fine conditions will continue before the temperature starts to drop on Sunday.

Southern states are bracing for a taste of the Antarctic, with Victoria expecting snow down to 500 metres tonight and blizzards in the Alps.

The mean minimum temperature for Bundaberg in August is 10.8.
