What do plants and rocket ships have in common? They both make great craft projects for the school holidays!

Kids of all ages spent the morning at the Botanic Gardens for the Hinkler Hall of Aviation’s Build a Rocket Ship Planter workshop today.

The Bundaberg Regional Council event featured trays lined with herb seedlings for the children to plant in recycled bottles which were transformed into rocket ships using craft materials.

According to local mum Amanda Irwin, the event was a great success, especially for her creative kids.

“My children love crafting and I love planting and gardening and perfect school holiday fun, get them out of the house and it’s a beautiful day for it,” she said.

“It’s great to see a lot of families and parents getting involved with crafts and getting their kids out outdoors in the school holidays.”

Grandmother Lynette Bosworth attended the event with her two grandsons, with the space-lovers dressing up in there best astronaut costumes for the occasion.

“The boys love rockets and space,” she said.

“They also both love gardening, they live on a large block and they have the gardens there and a little play house with their own gardens, so they really wanted to come along today.”

For those who missed out, the rocket ship planter workshop will be held again during the holidays on Wednesday, 2 October from 9 am to noon at the Botanic Gardens.
