The popular Avoca Pump Track will soon provide fun safe from the sun with a shade sail project under way next week.
The Council facility, a sealed pump track with off-road terrain suitable for bikes, skateboards and scooters, will be temporarily closed for the duration of the works.
Divisional representative Cr Steve Cooper said the shade project would be welcome news for families.
“We often receive feedback about the importance of shade in these family hubs and we are pleased to be able to deliver shade structures for the Avoca Pump Track,” Cr Cooper said.
“The great facility offers free fun and fitness for children of a range of ages and I’m sure parents will be thrilled with the increased sun safety.
“The project will include the installation of three separate shade sails which will be installed across various landing platforms.
“This will ensure the shade is available where it is needed most.”
The project has been awarded to local contractor Planet Shade.
The shade installation will be under way from 14 October until approximately 4 November, weather permitting.
Temporary fencing will be erected around the Avoca Pump Track and access will not be available for the duration of the works.
Access to all other park facilities will not be affected by the works.
About the Avoca Pump Track
Opened in 2017, the pump track features over 200 metres of two metre wide asphalt with a series of berms and low rollers, or round mounds and banked turns.
Momentum is gained by ‘pumping’ over the rollers.
