Air-conditioning will be installed at more Bundaberg Region state schools.

The State Government has announced that more public schools in the Bundaberg Region will have air-conditioning installed in 2020.

“Today we are announcing another 25 local schools will be added to the program and we will continue to take a measured approach to the rollout,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“We have committed an additional $100 million over four years through our priority air-conditioning program.

“Importantly this investment will support more than 300 jobs around Queensland.”

Member for Bundaberg, David Batt, welcomed the announcement.

“WE DID IT! ALL Bundy schools are getting air-conditioning! ❄️” he said on Facebook.

“This has been a major priority for me over the past two years, so I am absolutely thrilled.

“Our community has really thrown their support behind me in my calls for classroom air-con and this announcement shows people power really does work.

“Asking several questions, speaking in Parliament, writing many Ministerial letters and continually calling on the government has all paid off!”

Education Minister Grace Grace said the Government was committed to ensuring every student gets the best start in life.

“We’re getting on with the job and methodically rolling out air-conditioning for classrooms in a fiscally responsible manner,” Ms Grace said.

“We’ve looked at the areas in the hottest parts of the state outside the ‘Cooler Schools Zone’.

“We acknowledge the good work done by P&Cs, school communities and the department in the past to provide air-conditioning in classrooms.

“Now, thanks to our measured approach, we are building on that good work and rolling it out in the hottest parts of the state.”
