The Bundaberg and District Chamber of Commerce is calling on consumers to help deliver a “Christmas miracle” to local businesses by shopping locally in the lead-up to Christmas.

Local boutique owner Margaret Strano from Avanti Collections at West Bundaberg thinks it’s a great idea that will benefit all local businesses.

“There is no doubt that online shopping has affected local businesses, but there is still nothing better than being able to walk into a store, get personalised service and touch, feel and try on clothes and experience other products,” Margaret said.

“We have a sale rack which is very popular, but when people come into Avanti they often see other clothes they like.

“They go out of the store happy, with something they’re going to love wearing and, of course, they don’t have to wait for it to arrive in the mail.”

Bundaberg and District Chamber of Commerce Ppesident Tim Sayre said the campaign was designed to encourage locals to buy locally.

“We would love to see everybody supporting those businesses who call Bundaberg home,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple gift card for somebody you love or a new lounge suite for the family.

“It might be the Christmas ham for lunch from your local butcher, or maybe it’s some of our local seafood.

“Whatever you’re looking to buy this Christmas, make it local and help put smiles on a local small business owner today.

“In this busy time leading up to Christmas please help to deliver a Christmas miracle to our local businesses by shopping locally.”
