The Cancer Council Queensland’s iconic fundraiser Relay For Life 2020 was officially launched in Bundaberg today.

Bundaberg Relay For Life will be held on the weekend of 8 and 9 August at the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct and will see teams keep a baton moving in a relay-style walk to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland’s life-saving work in cancer research, prevention programs and support services.

The fundraising goal for this year is $100,000.

Winter Wonderland theme

This year’s theme is “Winter Wonderland”, which is sure to bring out the creativity of participating teams, as they decorate their Relay for Life campsite, their baton and their team.

Patron this year is Judy Peters, who said it was an honour to be Patron of such a worthwhile organisation.

“Around 1700 people in the Wide Bay Burnett are diagnosed with a cancer each year, so the more we can do to raise awareness and support them the better,” Judy said.

This year’s Face of Relay is Molly Dawson, who has gone through – and survived – her own Cancer journey.

“Relay is a chance for the Bundaberg community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives,” Molly said.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan said the launch is an opportunity to learn more about Relay For Life and unite for the cause.

“Participating in Relay For Life is a great way to support the endeavours of Cancer Council Queensland and help make a vital difference right here in your local community,” Ms McMillan said.

Sharing support and stories of hope

“At Relay, teams also take part in inspirational ceremonies and fundraising activities, supporting each other and sharing stories of hope.

“It is an event for everyone – no matter your age, or fitness level, you can get involved and make a difference.

“Together, we’re an unstoppable force and can stop cancer in its tracks.”

The earlier teams register the earlier they can start their fundraising.

The Bundaberg Cancer Council team offers lots of support, with fundraising ideas and tools to help teams get the most out of their Relay for Life experience.
