Coronavirus update: Council event closures

Council has announced an update to closures of venues and programs involving public gatherings to protect against Coronavirus.

Council is acting on public health advice to avoid large gatherings and maintain social distancing.

The latest events to be postponed or cancelled include:

Halls and venues: Events and programs involving all Council community facilities for hire have been cancelled.

Taste Bundaberg Festival: Due to be held on 12 to 21 June, the festival has been cancelled for 2020 and will resume in 2021.

The Hinkler Innovation Series: To be held in June, the Agtech event will instead be postponed to December 2020.

Council services

Council has contingency plans to maintain essential services throughout the pandemic including waste management, water and sewerage and cemetery operations.

There may be disruptions to other Council services, and these will be notified online.

Toilet paper

Council regrets to advise that toilet paper is being stolen from public toilets in the Bundaberg Region.

Roll holders and locks have been vandalised in many instances.

Cleaners are restocking daily and say they will soon run out of stock.

Customers should be aware there may be no toilet paper in local amenities when required.

This behaviour is reprehensible and reflects poorly on the perpetrators.

Council will be analysing CCTV footage and seeking to prosecute. Security measures will also be increased.

Council asks that everyone remains calm, follows official advice and shows consideration for others.

Community events

The latest information on the cancellation of community events include:

The Playhouse Theatre: The stage production of Mamma Mia has been postponed

Bundaberg Chess Club: all club operations and events will be suspended until further notice

Bundy Turfburners: The mower racing club cancelled their event at the Bullyard Recreational Grounds on 5 April

RSPCA Bundaberg: Microchipping Day, scheduled for Saturday, 21March, has been postponed. Further information about the recheduled date is to be advised.

Bundaberg Brewed Drinks: The organisation has announced the temporary closure of The Bundaberg Barrel.
