While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, Bundaberg Regional Council has altered its Welcome Baby Celebration to continue to celebrate the exciting arrival of our newest residents.
Welcome Baby Celebration packs are now available for babies 15 months and younger, with each gift bag containing a few goodies and a certificate to be delivered personally.
Council's Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said usually, the packs would be handed out at a physical celebration event but things would work a little differently this year.
“The Welcome Baby Celebration is an opportunity to formally introduce and welcome your baby as a valued member of the Bundaberg Region Community,” she said.
“Unfortunately our annual event can't go ahead at the moment due to Coronavirus restrictions, however, we will still be distributing the Welcome Baby packs to new families in the region as a congratulatory memento.
“Each participating baby will receive a ‘Baby Loves Bundaberg' Pack and an acknowledgement certificate signed by Bundaberg's Mayor, a small gift and their very own Welcome Baby Teddy.”
Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey said the Welcome Baby Celebration was a long-established custom in the region.
“The Welcome Baby Celebration is a proud Council tradition and one that we look forward to every year,” he said.
“While it is disappointing the physical event is on hold for the moment, we still want new parents to feel supported through this momentous time in their lives.
“Welcome Baby Celebration details will follow after registration and delivery will be determined by the current restrictions due to COVID–19.”
