Hitz 939 Breakfast Announcer Tracey Sergiacomi celebrates her 10 year anniversary on the Breakfast Show today, with many great memories to look back on, and more to come.

But Trace got behind the microphone almost by accident.

“I started work at Bundaberg Broadcasters 13 years ago as the Receptionist.

“I was then asked to do an on air week gossip segment with Billy and The Beatman on Hitz 939, where I was called Lady Blah Blah.

“After that, the Program Director at the time Kane called me into his office and asked me if I would like a shot at Breakfast radio.

Trace jumped at the chance, and the rest, as they say, is history.

“I never went to radio school and didn’t think I was that good on air but, for some reason, 10 years later I am still here.”

Trace’s enthusiasm and love of the job and the community is infectious.

“I do have a great job, sitting in a studio, hanging with Matty and listening to music, what’s not to like,” Trace joked.

“I never had ambitions to be a radio announcer but now that I am I can’t imagine not being on air.

“It will be a very emotional time when it finally comes to an end.”

There have been many highlights over the past 10 years.

“Dragon Boat racing with Samuel Johnson, meeting the Maroons when they came to Bundy after the 2013 floods and also being the ground announcer for the Cowboys Broncos trail match in 2016 at Salter Oval,” Trace said.

According to Trace, the only drawback were the early starts.

“When I first started 10 years ago I would jump out of bed and get to work super early to get ready for the show, now each year that goes on it gets a little harder.”

Trace said it was a privilege being invited into people’s homes each day.

“I just want  to say a big thank you to everyone who invites me into their lives each day and I hope I continue to keep them entertained and informed on all things that happen in our beautiful city.”
