Bundaberg’s Mick Murnane has been recognised as the best development professional in the state.
The PGA Golf Coach at Bundaberg Golf Club won the Golf Development Professional of the Year award at last night’s Queensland Golf Industry Awards.
The awards were held online, and Murnane accepted the award virtually, wearing a vest, shirt and tie, and flamingo shorts.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to win this award,” he said.
“Virtual Awards night meant it was business on top and party on the bottom,” he joked.
Speaking at the Industry Awards night, Master of Ceremonies, avid golfer and well-known comedian, Fred Lang, remarked on Murnane’s efforts to encourage more people to the sport.
“Michael Murnane has proven to be an outstanding asset to growing the game of golf in the wide Bay Region,” Mr Lang said.
“In addition to co-ordinating golf junior programs at four different golf clubs, he also delivered 157 school clinics across 17 different schools, teaching more than 2200 students during 2019.”
“Michael also introduced 29 new lady members to the game through the ladies Let’s Golf program, not to mention 19 new senior golfers from three retirement villages he delivered programs too.”
“An all abilities accredited coach, Murnane optimises the words ‘game development’ and is a very worthy recipient of this award.”
Murnane said he was thrilled by the award and thanked those around him for the immense support.
“I have to say a huge thanks to Craig Swift and the Bundaberg Golf Club for allowing me to coach at your venue. To my other clubs, GinGin, Gayndah, Innes Park, Monto thanks for the support.”
“To all the schools that have allowed me to engage new golfers…. your the best.”
“Special thanks to Scott, Sally and Adrian at Golf Australia Qld who do so much behind the scenes stuff, you lot are awesome.”
“To all the PGA staff, past and present, who have helped me on this journey, I truly thank you all and one final shout out to my wife and daughter who through no choice of their own, live a life of golf.”
