Settlement Road upgrade starts soon

Settlement Road upgrade
A bitumen seal upgrade along a section of Settlement Road is expected to commence next month.

A staged upgrade of Settlement Road from Tablelands Road through to Booths Road, is expected to begin next month.

This seal upgrade over 4.98km will be constructed in three stages and is expected to take approximately 12-14 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The scheduled works program includes stage one from Booths Road through to chainage 4575; stage two from Chainage 4575 through to Crans Road, and stage three from Crans Road through to Tableland Road.

Work on stage one is planned to commence early September, with stages two and three to directly follow. Work will be undertaken on weekdays from 6.30am to 5pm.

Divisional representative Cr Wayne Honor said Settlement Road connected the rural communities of Moolboolaman, Dalysford and Horse Camp to the Bruce Highway between Gin Gin and Childers.

“This unsealed section of Settlement Road between Booths Road and Tablelands Road has been scheduled for this upgrade due to safety concerns relating to the increasing through traffic, in particular its use as a school bus route,” he said.

“During flood events the settlements of Mount Perry and Horse Camp have the option of using Settlement Road as a connection to Gin Gin, avoiding the section of Bruce Highway which can be cut at the Burnett River.

“As construction of all three stages proceed, Settlement Road will be closed, and detours and signage will be installed to guide motorists around the work site.

“Access will be provided for adjacent property owners (within the staged work zones). All other traffic will be directed via Tableland Road.”

Cr Honor said the project had been funded in this year's Council Budget.

It involves widening the balance of the road to a seven-metre sealed surface and widening on tight curves.

“Discretionary tree clearing for better driver sight lines will also be incorporated in the work,” he said.

During the construction phase school bus services will be escorted through the work site by Council employees.

Council will liaise with affected property owners in relation to property access and placement of wheelie bins.
