A total of 30 teams made up of nine girls, 10 boys and 11 mixed teams from Gympie to Bundaberg contested the 2020 Wide Bay Primary Schools All Schools Touch Tournament at Greg Duncan Fields last Friday.
Carnival convenor Mr Greg Kruger said “a great standard of touch and great sportsmanship” were displayed by all players.
“Many finals went to drop-off after draws at the end of normal time with very close competition throughout the divisions,” Mr Kruger said.
Bundaberg schools won two of the divisions, with East State School taking out the boys, and St Luke’s Anglican School claiming the girls' title.
Mr Kruger said the top three positions for each division were: Boys Division: East Bundaberg State School 1st, Woongarra State School 2nd, Norville State School 3rd; Girls division: St Luke’s Anglican School 1st, Norville State School 2nd, Woongarra State School 3rd; Mixed division: Jones Hill State School Gympie 1st, Victory College Gympie 2nd, Norville State School 3rd.
The Tremaine Tairawhiti medal winners for Player of the Finals were: Boys division Levi Hack (East State School), Girls division: Alexandra Churchill (Norville State School); Mixed division: Matthew Bates (Jones Hill State School).
“It was a great day and a massive thanks to Bundaberg Touch, especially Phil Larsen and David Field.
“Thanks also to referees from Bundy State High School, Shalom College, St Luke’s Anglican School, and Isis State High School which made the day very successful, while Phil Larsen also did a great job as the referees coordinator from Bundy Touch,” Mr Kruger said.
Bundaberg Touch junior season will be starting 16 October for all players interested. Registrations are open on their website.
