Business teams from around the Bundaberg Region took a swing at raising vital funds at the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue inaugural golf day on Friday.

The 19 teams consisting of 76 golfers made their way around Bundaberg Golf Club in support of the essential emergency service.

Wide Bay Community Engagement Coordinator Steph McKenzie said the day had started well, and although there was a little wind about, it didn’t deter the teams from giving it their best shot.

“We are hoping to raise $20,000 here today,” Steph said.

“It’s important for businesses to come together to network and what better way to do that then to spend a day on the greens raising vital money for a good cause and supporting the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue inaugural golf day.

“Every time we send our helicopter into the air it cost $12,500, and we are only 70 per cent government funded, so days like today are very important, and we are grateful.”

Steph said local businesses including Bundaberg Toyota and DGZ Chartered Accountants made up the four person Ambrose, that would have competitors playing into the evening.

“This is the first golf day we have held here in Bundaberg; it’s well attended and already a lot of fun,” she said.

“We decided on a golf day because with COVID-19 we thought golf is the perfect non-contact sport, that is a lot of fun, so it was perfect.”

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue has been Queensland’s leading community helicopter rescue service for more than 40 years.

Its purpose has always been the same – to save lives and support Queenslanders during their time of need.

In 2019 Bundaberg crews flew 304 critical missions, valued at more than $3.8 million, at no cost to patients.
