Young adults wanting to create positive and lasting change in themselves and their local community are encouraged to join Bundaberg Rotaract.
Bundaberg Rotaract members are aged between 18 and 30 years, and they share a unique passion for taking action through not only ideas but planning and execution of projects and events.
Bundaberg Rotaract president Danielle Galvin said it is a great way for young people to get involved in the Bundaberg community while developing life skills and gaining leadership experience.
“It is also an excellent opportunity for them to meet new people and potentially make life-long friends,” Danielle said.
“Rotaract is actually a branch of Rotary club that is specifically aimed towards young adults in the community and accordingly is designed to be less formal than most Rotary clubs.
“We do maintain a good relationship with the local Rotary clubs though and in fact the club, when originally founded, it received assistance from the Sunrise Rotary club with chartering it.”
Danielle said she had been a member since early 2018, and she decided to join as she was keen to get involved in the community after returning to the region and she was also looking to meet new people.
“We have done a wide variety of events in the last two years alone, including a charity movie screening, a bake sale, trivia night, a professional development seminar as well as participating in Clean Up Australia day and Relay for Life,” she said.
“We also have regular social events for our club members such as board game nights, hiking and bowling.
“Our members decide each month what they want our social event for that month to be and we always welcome any suggestions.”
Bundaberg Rotaract meet and greet barbecue
She said now was the perfect time for young adults in the Bundaberg Region to consider joining Bundaberg Rotaract as they host a meet and greet, with a free barbecue, on Saturday, 17 October, at Lions Park, Bundaberg North, from 1pm.
“We always welcome new members and would love to hear from anyone who thinks they might want to join our club,” she said.
“We are excited to announce we have a COVID-19 safe scavenger hunt open to the entire community planned for November with more details coming soon.
“We are also always looking for fresh ideas for events and encourage our members to make suggestions of what events and projects they think would be beneficial to the community.”
