If a man’s home is his castle is his shed his fortress?

A dozen men from diverse backgrounds have been the subject of a Creative Regions inspired initiative titled “In the Shed”.

Artistic Director of Creative Regions, Di Wills said the project focussed on the importance of the space men find for themselves by working “in the shed”.

“Kallee Buchanan from ABC Wide Bay conducted interviews with 12 men from the Childers area for a series that will be aired on ABC Wide Bay.

“To complement the interviews, photographer Sabrina Lauriston gave added depth to the conversations with candid images of each participant that will form an exhibition to be held in November.

“The 12-part series provides an insightful view of the dozen participants who can be categorised as farmers, tinkers, fathers and sons, sportsmen, winemakers and mischief creators,” Di said.

“I believe this series highlights the importance of having a space for blokes and how significant the shed is in their lives.

“For some, the shed is a creative space, for others somewhere to store their treasures while others may see it as a point of refuge.”

Di said the participants will have a final opportunity to come together at the private launch of the exhibition of images to round off their conversions about the importance of a man and his shed and how significant this space can be for mental health, business, legacy and handing down knowledge from fathers to sons.

The exhibition will be open to the public at Vintner’s Secret Vineyard the afternoon of Saturday 7 November.

Interested persons can check Creative Region's website for further details.

“In the Shed” has been funded by St John's Grace Fund with the support of Isis Canegrowers.
