Bundaberg Christian College instrumental teacher Nikki Udal said the SHEP program was the biggest all-inclusive school musical event in the Bundaberg Region.

State Honours Ensemble Program is the biggest all-inclusive school musical event in the Bundaberg Region and it returns for the seventh time this weekend.

Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, in partnership with Bundaberg Christian College, is bringing together 150 young musicians from 34 schools, including eight from the Bundaberg Region.

The intensive music-making program is the seventh annual State Honours Ensemble Program Middle School and will be held in Bundaberg from Friday to Sunday.

Presented by Open Conservatorium, SHEP Middle School – Bundaberg gives middle school (years 5 to 9) wind, brass, percussion, string and vocal students the unique opportunity to collaborate with a team of eminent conductors from Queensland Conservatorium.

Respected Queensland Conductors Jeanette Douglas, Raquel Bastos, Lisa Stevenson and Chris Burcin, will lead the ensembles in Bundaberg.

At last year’s event Bundaberg Christian College instrumental teacher Nikki Udal said the program was the biggest all-inclusive school musical event in the Bundaberg Region and it was created to bring the top musical students together to work in a team environment.

Nikki said it gave students the opportunity to perform to a wider circle of people, in front of people from across the state and from other local schools.

State Honours Ensemble Program is the innovative and intensive music program that was initiated to make quality musical performances while including educational activities throughout Queensland.

Each year classroom and instrumental teachers are invited to nominate their most outstanding school musicians to participate in these programs.
