Bundaberg Region families were among those who enjoyed a getaway at Lake Redbrook Holiday Retreat near Childers during the festive season.

The property is set on 67ha of farming country with a 16ha lake which is suitable for kayaks, boats and paddleboards.

The lake is stocked with fish including barramundi and fingerling bass. Any catches have to be returned.

Guests can enjoy walks and bike rides around the lake, stopping along the way to see deer, pheasants, peacocks, turkeys and chickens.

There's also a finch enclosure near the main camping area.

The park has seven self-contained cabins, 31 powered sites and unlimited unpowered camping.

A small orchard offers different fruits to try in season such as mango and more exotic chocolate pudding fruit, sour sop, sapodilla and icecream bean.

Lake Redbrook is also an operating sugar cane farm.

Hosts Gary and Sharyn are happy to provide information about the property and its various activities.

Unfortunately, day trips are currently not available because of COVID-19 restrictions.

If you don't want to bring a caravan or camp in a tent, the cabins have ensuites, cooking facilities and air-conditioning.

There's also an enticing swimming pool to cool down in warmer months.

Lake Redbrook Holiday Retreat is at 122 Farnsfield Road, North Isis, near Childers.

Travelling from Bundaberg, head towards Childers, turn left onto Logging Creek Road and at the T-intersection turn right onto Farnsfield Road. The park is about 1.5km from the intersection on the left.

The visitors we spoke to were impressed with the proximity to Bundaberg, amenities, views and activities.

If you're looking to get away but don't have much time for travel, Lake Redbrook Holiday Retreat is close, good fun and unique.

Lush green drive through sites, spotless amenities, refreshing pool, lovely walking around the lake visiting the animals. Our kids loved the miniature horses, deer and peacocks.
