Oodies Café will transform into a theatre tonight and tomorrow night as Bundaberg Players Inc perform Beyond the Neck, a script-in-hand production.

The play tells the story of four strangers bound by a shared moment – the Port Arthur Massacre – and is being directed by Jenny Haack and Brayden Rewald.

Jenny Haack, who is also co-owner of Oodies Café, said the play doesn’t focus on the tragic event.

“We do not wish to glorify or sensationalise the events which occurred in Port Arthur 25 years ago,” Jenny said.

“Beyond the Neck is not a play about Port Arthur; it is a play about the human condition, community and the profound impact of grief on innocent lives.”

Brayden Rewald said the play tells the story of four people’s journeys.

“Based on in-depth interviews, Beyond the Neck is set ten years after the event and deals with the grief and recovery of the 1996 tragedy,” Brayden said.

“We are looking forward to bringing this important work to audiences in the unique setting of Oodies Café.”

Beyond the Neck will be performed tonight (Friday 23 April) and tomorrow night (Saturday 24 April) at 7.30pm, with all tickets $10.

Limited seats are still available and bookings can be made at Oodies Café, 7 Kolan Street, North Bundaberg, phone 4153 5340.

A dinner menu will be available from 5pm prior to each performance.
