A unique exhibition featuring creepy crawlies is on show at the Bundaberg Library, providing children under the age of six with hands on discovery and learning opportunities.
With funding from the First 5 Forever grants program, the library has been able to bring the Mini Beasts exhibition to life.
Mini Beasts opened to the public today and runs until Saturday 9 October, showcasing a range of preserved mini beasts which change each week.
Created by Youth Services Librarian Jaala Beauchamp, this exhibition is exclusive to the Bundaberg Region.
Jaala said it would provide children the opportunity to get up close with bugs and beetles, learning all about nature and the creatures that call our region home.
“This exhibition is designed to encourage rich language experiences, curiosity and foster joy in discovery,” she said.
“Children and families can expect to access a range of activities and experiences as well as see real preserved insects, bugs, beetles and spiders.”
Children will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities as part of the exhibition.
• Look at objects through a microscope and magnifying glass
• Look at x-rays of animals using a light box
• Create mini beast words with magnetic letters
• Create a mini beast scene with insect replicas
• Hunt for hidden mini beasts
Those who attend the exhibition this week are able to collect a free gift for children six years and under (until stock runs out).
Jaala said the Mini Beasts program was a fun way for kids to engage in talking, reading, singing and playing which aligned perfectly with First 5 Forever principles.
First 5 Forever aims to connect families to the information, resources and support they need to build the best foundation for their child’s future language and literacy development.
The Bundaberg Library has a range of activities happening every week for children.
First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government.
