The community is invited aboard the Bundaberg Model Railway Club’s open day to check out miniature locomotives in action.
Bundaberg Model Railway Club is the second oldest model railway organisation in Queensland, and the open day will give the community a chance to find out about the long-running history of the club.
Bundaberg Model Railway Club promotion officer John Bonnett said club members were busy making a new layout, which would give attendees a chance to see their work in progress.
“We have a brand-new layout that is currently under construction,” John said.
“People will have the chance to see what goes in to making a layout.”
A model railway layout can include intricate details, of known landscapes or sometimes a hidden message; taking months of hard work and dedication to construct.
“We have four permanent tracks that will be on show, and we have 40-50 per cent of the track of this new layout down already,” he said.
“The open day is free to attend, and just a great way to promote the hobby.
“People can come along any day of the year that we are open, but these open days draw in more people.”
John said the club holds two open days each year and they're always well attended by train enthusiast and the wider community.
“Whether they are two years old or a grandparent they are welcome to come along,” he said.
“The younger members are the lifeblood of the club as we go along – most of our members are over 70s, so of course we welcome younger people right down to two.
“We hope for as many visitors as possible on the day to enjoy this hobby and make the open day a success.”
Bundaberg Model Railway Club’s open day will be held between 9am and 3pm on 14 August, at the old showgrounds, with entry via Kensington Street. To find out more click here.
