It was a busy year for art lovers with many significant artists and artworks showcased at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery and Childers Art Space in 2021.
More than 30,000 visitors walked through the doors of the galleries last year, with 29 exhibitions installed in both spaces for art enthusiasts to enjoy.
Bundaberg Regional Council's arts, culture and events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said there were plenty of interesting and thought-provoking exhibitions and staff were kept busy, hanging more than 750 artworks throughout the year.
“Out of the 29 wonderful exhibitions, 19 featured the works of local artists,” he said.
“This is an amazing effort and showcases the talent and skill of our art community within the region.”
The galleries held more than 75 events during 2021 which included the popular Outdoor Art Room, Friday Sessions, artist talks, long table artist dinners, Creative Crowd, Artisan Markets and more.
“The galleries staff were also busy during the year working alongside the community for events such as the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival, Bundaberg Art Prize, The Lighthouse Festival, International Women’s Day, Seniors Month, Mental Health Week, and Child Protection Week.,” Cr Learmonth said.
“These are important events and Bundaberg Regional Galleries is proud to host activities and provide support to ensure their success”
Cr Learmonth said while 2021 had not been without its challenges due to Covid restrictions and mandates, staff had worked hard and achieved a great year of showcasing exhibitions and events.
“We are very thankful to have a thriving arts scene within the Bundaberg Region that is well-supported by the community,” he said.
“Looking ahead, the galleries team in Childers and Bundaberg are excited to reopen and kick of 2022 from this week.”
