Birthamba Road widening begins next month

Birthamba Road works
Set to begin in April, construction will focus on a 2.1km section of Birthamba Road from Gin Gin Road to Raines Roads.

Bundaberg Regional Council will be undertaking work to widen a section of Birthamba Road in South Kolan as part of a five-stage project to improve safety and efficiency in the area.

Set to begin in April, construction will focus on a 2.1km section of Birthamba Road from Gin Gin Road to Raines Roads.

Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor said the road would be widened from 5.5 metres to eight metres.

He said the completion of the project would benefit many road users as well as the local community.

“This section of Birthamba Road directly services the commercial and residential properties in South Kolan,” he said.

“It is also a bus route and an important road to service the rural residential properties and the South Kolan Sports Ground to the north of Gin Gin Road.

“Currently, more than 500 vehicles per day travel along the road with 20 per cent of these heavy vehicles.”

Cr Trevor said construction would begin next month with the expected completion in June 2022.

The project is partly funded by the Federal Government's Road to Recovery Program.
