Pair stranded in tinnie off Bargara rescued

The Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has been involved in a multi-agency operation to help two boaties, stranded off the coast of Bargara this morning.

Emergency services including Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight and Volunteer Marine Rescue came to the aid of two boaties stranded off the coast of Bargara this morning.

It's believed the pair's tinnie had taken on water from heavy rain storms in the area, which caused its electronics to fail, meaning it couldn't be started and was essentially drifting.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper was tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) around 9 am after the boaties activated an emergency beacon.

The helicopter crew located the boat around 10 miles off the coast and lowered a radio to the occupants so they could communicate with authorities.

It was determined they were safe and well, so the rescue helicopter circled above while Bundaberg's Volunteer Marine Rescue boat travelled to the scene to tow the tinnie to safety.
