Service of Remembrance to mark anniversaries

Peacekeeper by artist Ian Coate

A Service of Remembrance will be held next month commemorating the 50th anniversary of Australia’s commitment to the Vietnam War and 75 years of Australian Peace Operations.

Held at the War Nurses Memorial Park, the service will see the unveiling of four plaques including:

  • 75th Anniversary of Australian Peace Operations
  • 60th Anniversary of Australians in the Vietnam War
  • Roll of Honour Bundaberg Burnett Region’s Vietnam War Nurses
  • Comfort and Care SE Asian conflicts

Bundaberg District Women Veterans Assistant Secretary Leone Wilson OAM said the service would provide the opportunity for people to remember those who served and pay their respects.

“This service will provide the chance to remember the sacrifice, suffering and honour of the service of Australians during the Vietnam War and in Peacekeeping/Peacemaking Operations,” she said.

“It will also see us pay tribute to the nurses who provided care for the wounded and assisted with humanitarian operations.

“Whilst the contribution of Australian servicemen and servicewomen should be remembered always, anniversaries such as the 60th and 75th provide an opportunity to pay special tribute to the featured Australian Defence Force’s area of specific operation.”

Everyone is invited to attend the service, with a number of Bundaberg community members including ex-service organisations, plus women veterans and their guests, will all be in attendance.
