Children's author Lauren Corvino will be sharing her talents and experience in writing and book publishing at the upcoming Moore Park Beach Arts Festival.

The Gin Gin writer published her first book, The Nearby Nanna, earlier this year and said she was excited to be holding two workshops at Moore Park Beach Arts Festival on Saturday 20 August.

“I’ll be running a workshop with tips for self publishing in the morning from 10 am to 11.30 am, then in the afternoon will be running a workshop for children to inspire the writer in them, from 1 pm to 2 pm,” Lauren said.

“The picture book publishing workshop will include tips on getting a manuscript ready, I’ll teach layout and formatting basics, finding the right freelancers and getting ready to market your book.

“It takes a lot of the mystery out of it and shows that if you have a good idea and a love of writing, you should have a go.

“The afternoon workshop will be a great way to connect with kids who love to write – finding their story heart, crafting a story, bringing the story to life and even teaching some dramatic performance skills.”

Plenty to learn at Moore Park Beach Arts Festival

Budding authors are not the only ones to learn new skills or brush up on existing ones at the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival.

There will be dedicated workshops on cake decorating, felt making and painting.

Bookings are advised early, as numbers will be limited.

More details can be found here.

There will also be drop in demonstrations and displays on woodworking, spinning and weaving, blacksmithing and traditional skills at the Ol Meri Wantok Pacific Village.

Keep up to date on the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival on the website or by following Instagram or Facebook.
