As part of Queensland Mental Health Week, the Anglican Parish of Bundaberg held a Meditation, Mindfulness and Me workshop.
The meditation, led by Charlene Savage, was presented as a sound experience.
Ms Savage said the session allowed participants to relax and focus on their breathing.
“After a physical and breath awareness and relaxation technique, participants were invited to relax as the sounds of various instruments flowed over them, interspersed with short periods of contemplative silence,” she said.
Participants sat in the peaceful choir stalls and heard the dulcet sounds of tongue drums, wind chime, a brass singing bowl, gong, frame drum, rain stick and Native American flute.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants connected over morning tea, enjoyed free massages and took home individual self-care take home packs.
Almost half of all Australian adults will face mental ill-health during their lives and on average nine people die every day by suicide.
This year, Queensland Mental Health Week is focusing on ‘Awareness, Belonging, Connection' with the aim of making change and helping increase community understanding of the factors that help enhance mental well-being.
Mother Kate Ross, Assistant Priest, said the church hosted meditation sessions every Saturday and encouraged the community to get involved.
“Mental health and wellbeing starts with communities looking out for each other,” Mother Kate Ross said.
“The Anglican Parish of Bundaberg holds a meditation group every Saturday morning at 8.30 am at Christ Church, Anglican Church, 59 Woongarra Street.
“The meditation group is free and everyone is welcome”.
Queensland Mental Health Week is being celebrated from Saturday 8 October to Sunday 16 October.
