Elouera Guide Campsite near Mon Repos has a fresh new look after undergoing some exciting renovations, with the community invited to check out the location at a special open day tomorrow.
Owned by Guides Queensland the Elouera Guide Campsite is managed by local volunteers and can be hired by the general public.
The site combines the beach and the bush nestled near Mon Repos turtle rookery.
Volunteer Ann Holliss said the installation of a new amenities block and the refurbishment of the kitchen gave the facility a new lease on life.
“We recently had new amenities facilities built with a Queensland Department Sport and Recreation grant and a smaller contribution by our local committee, and a refurbished kitchen with a Federal Government grant,” she said.
“The site is available to groups external to Girl Guides, and in fact that is how we raise funds to maintain and improve the facilities.
“Opening in the 1950s, the site has grown significantly over the years.
“We do already have many schools locally and as far afield as New South Wales, and not-for-profit groups, that regularly stay at the campsite.
“It is extremely popular with school groups because of the location to Mon Repos, the schools come and stay while students learning about the environment.”
Ann said Elouera Guide Campsite was also open to private groups to hire the entire facility.
“Private family groups can also hire the facilities,” she said.
“If you hire the facility, you are the only occupants – we don’t have multiple groups onsite together.”
On Saturday 22 October the campsite will be open to the community to check out what is available.
“We would like to invite the public to come and explore our facilities this Saturday,” Ann said.
“Many locals still don’t know we are there.”
