Hayden Pope was all smiles after scoring his maiden century for Waves in their Rum City Foods Division 1 Premiership win over Brothers last Saturday

Last year’s Aussie Bundy Big Bash Player of the Series Hayden Pope hit the jackpot with the bat, scoring his maiden century to lead Waves to victory over a depleted Brothers in their Rum City Foods Division 1 Premiership clash at Salter Oval on Saturday.

The quiet achieving all-rounder notched 102 from 88 balls to be the main-stay in a total of 5-289, before also taking 2-49 as the Brethren finished at 8-261 in reply.

Meanwhile, captain Chris Napper led from the front for reigning premiers Norths with 4-33 and 60, but they fell 14 short of East Bundy Magpies in another high-scoring affair, with Lennon Childs (66) and veteran spinner Lachlan Donovan (3-34) playing leading hands in the victory.

Tomorrow, Brothers will be back to near full strength for their showdown with Norths at Salter Oval at 11am, while Magpies will be out to pluck Waves.

The day-night Division 2 duel between Brothers and Norths, starting at 2.30pm, will double as the Tallon-Giles Trophy match for the division.

Meanwhile, Bundaberg’s Luke Owen and Ben Davey were among the stars with 56 and 3-57 respectively as Wide Bay defeated the South Queensland Under-21 side by 67 runs at the South Queensland Open Schaeffer Shield at Ipswich on Saturday, but they were humiliated by South East Queensland by 233 runs on Sunday, despite a fighting 44 by captain Mitch Parsons and a three-wicket haul to his best mate and fellow Bundaberg representative Sam Pearson.

Wide Bay were also beaten by hosts Northern Suburbs in the penultimate round of the Queensland Premier Cricket Under-17 Lord Taverners Competition on Sunday despite Bundaberg’s Lachlan Heycox scoring an unconquered 46 in a total of 8-181 before the City side completed a four-wicket triumph with 10-2 overs to spare.

Wide Bay will be playing for pride when they clash with third placed Valleys at Salter Oval this Sunday.

But in A Grade Men, Waves Schooners were white-washed by leaders Terrors 14-0, and Brothers United Heat edged out Bargara Bombers 3-2.
