Full steam ahead for model train expo

Bundaberg Model Train and Hobby Expo
Train enthusiast from far and wide travel to the Bundaberg Region this weekend to visit the expo presented by Wide Bay Burnett Model Railway Club.

It’s full steam ahead as the Bundaberg Model Train and Hobby Expo gets ready to pull up and open its doors to the local community at the Bundaberg Multiplex.

Train enthusiasts from far and wide will travel to the Bundaberg Region this weekend to visit the expo, presented by Wide Bay Burnett Model Railway Club.

Expo coordinator Graham Nicolson said this year would feature large displays of trains, planes and automobiles.

“There’s at least 25 per cent of the displays that have never been seen here in Bundaberg before,” he said.

“We have Bundaberg Aero Sport Flyers and Coral Coast Radio Control Club of Bundaberg coming along with their large displays, which means there will be lots of variety for everyone.

“We have traders coming from all over Queensland.”

The event is a major fundraiser for the year for the Wide Bay Burnett Model Railway Club.

Graham said as the most northern model train expo in Queensland, it always attracted a large crowd.

“This is the most northern show of its type in Queensland, so we get a lot of people travelling to the region, they come all the way from Cairns,” he said.

“So, it’s definitely good for the local economy as motels will be fully booked.”

President of the Wide Bay Burnett Model Railway Club Stephen Reeves said the 2021 Bundaberg Model Train and Hobby Expo showcased a record number of model railway layouts, radio-controlled cars, aircraft, yachts, and larger scale off-road vehicles to round out the show, and this year is looking to be bigger and better.

Now it its eighth year, the Bundaberg Model Train and Hobby Expo promises a weekend of fun for all ages.
