Billy’s Day: Lovely friendly day of social competition with a fabulous game of Ladies Open Pairs thrown in for good measure!

Ladies first: Team Marilyn had a cliff hanger win over team Robyn. Robyn and Karen were trailing until the sixth end when they momentarily took the lead only to have it taken from them by Daphne and Marilyn on the eighth.

From then on it was a game of changing fortunes for both sides, up one minute, down the next!

On the twentieth end Robyn and Karen were leading Daphne and Marilyn 21/19, how tense was that last end?

Marilyn put down a pearler of a last bowl to take three points to take the game in the twenty first end 22/21.

Congratulations to all players, and thanks for giving we spectators an amazing game to watch!

Team Marilyn: Daphne Brettell Marilyn Mullins

Team Robyn: Karen Henderson  Robyn Bishop

Special thanks to Rob Anderson who was our Umpire for the day.

Social Bowls Results:

Winners rink 13: Lyall Brettell  Maurie Strano Cheryl Goodhew

Consolation rink 13: Dean Kulbars Robbie Byrnes Oyster Dowling

Jackpot still intact so come along next week for a shot at the money.

Saturday 25.03.2023: Jackpot Pairs with a Mens Open Pairs game thrown in for our enjoyment!

In the Mens Pairs John Robinson (Robbo) and Greg Silverthorne (Silver) played a top notch game against Ian Goodhew and Maurie Strano.

Worthy of a final this first round of the mens pairs just shows us what a competition we have in store.

A game of changing fortunes, with all players playing out of their collective skins, greatly appreciated by both the  crowd of supporters and we social bowlers as well!

Robbo and Sliver were holding a slender lead going into the final ends, 22/21 on end 20, a nail biting finish that went right down to the last bowl on the 21st. end gave them the win 23/21.

Congratulations to all players, a game to remember.

Thanks to Rob Anderson who stood as Umpire for the day.

Rink draw winners: Rink 9:

Competition game: Robbo Silver

Runners Up: Rink 11: Fiona Dowling Oyster Dowling.

Just to give you the heads up, next Saturday is the final of the Mens Open Singles to be played between Gordon Nuttall and Greg Silverthorne.

This should be an amazing game to watch, so get off the couch and over to the bowls green to see a really special game being played.

Sunday 26.03.2023: What a day!

One game of Mens Open Pairs, two games of Ladies Open Pairs and social triples games to well and truly fill our green!

I’ll start with the Mens Pairs: Geoff Haynes and Bob Winzar had a win over Gordon Nuttall and Graham Summers in a cracker of a game.

Gordon and Graham flew into the lead and held the lead for eighteen ends before Geoff and Bob made up the difference and slowly crept ahead.

Gordon and Graham got stuck on seventeen keeping that score for six ends while Geoff and Bob surged ahead with a five on the nineteenth end to seal the match.

The last end saw Gordon put the kitty in the ditch to take the end but the score went against them with Geoff and Bob emerging victorious.

Some amazing bowls rolled by all competitors and enjoyed by the crowd of spectators.

Ladies Open Pairs.

Judy Stanley and Marjo Greiner had a hard fought win over Cheryl Goodhew and Gail Lenz in a game of fluctuating fortunes.

Judy and Marjo were trailing until the eighth end when a two put them ahead by one.

Cheryl and Gail rallied and led until the seventeenth end when a four again put Judy and Marjo two ahead.

The nineteenth end saw the scores even on twenty one, but the twentieth end saw Judy and Marjo win a four then one on the last end to take the match 26/21.

A great game with some really tense moments for the supporters of both teams!

The second game of Ladies Open Pairs saw Jane Herd-Evans and Fiona Dowling take a comfortable win over Jacquie Rogerson and Gloria Newby.

Having said that it was a hard game with Jacquie and Gloria running out to a good lead until the ninth end.

Nine must have been an unlucky number for Jacquie and  Gloria  as they were stuck on nine for eight ends while Jane and Fiona surged ahead.

The final score was in no way an indication of the quality of the game.

Thanks to Rob Anderson who was our Umpire for the day.

Social Bowls: Well I have to say it was a hard afternoon as we all had an interest in the competition games which made it difficult to concentrate on our own game, however a good day out on the green was had by all.

Rink draw winners: Rink 13: Gordon Ibbertson  Robyn Bishop Maurie Strano

Encouragement: Rink 13: Lesley Christensen Trevor Christensen Oyster Dowling
