Australia’s first Indigenous orthopaedic surgeon Dr Anthony Murray has begun performing surgical procedures at The Friendlies.
Dr Murray, from the Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group, has been consulting at The Friendlies Medical Suites since March last year and he recently started operating at the hospital.
He specialises in the highest quality of surgical results in hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopic knee surgery, orthopaedic trauma surgery, and complex revision hip and knee surgery.
Techniques including direct anterior approach hip replacement, kinematic aligned knee replacements and patient specific instrumentation, are delivered by Dr Murray with his team in a caring, compassionate and professional environment to reduce patients’ pain, restore function and improve their quality of life.
Dr Murray has sub-specialty post-fellowship training in prestigious hospitals with highly regarded orthopaedic joint replacement and trauma specialists across Australia.
He graduated from his medical training at James Cook University in Townsville and Cairns in 2012 and he has been admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
Raised in Far North, Central and South-East Queensland, Dr Murray enjoys farming, rugby and fitness.
The Friendlies’ Director of Clinical Services and Patient Safety Sandy Blake welcomed Dr Murray and said he’s an excellent addition to the surgical team.
“It’s really great to have such an experienced senior orthopaedic surgeon come on board who can service our patients and meet people’s acute needs through consultations and emergency admissions,” she said.
“Orthopaedics is one of the hospital’s important surgical services.
“We’re always striving to ensure we’re the hospital of choice for friendly, quality healthcare.”
Dr Murray’s reception can be contacted on 5493 8038.
