Participants at an art workshop this Saturday won’t only be learning new skills, they’ll be helping with the running of the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival.
Leading local artist Jess Newitt is the Art Awards coordinator this year for the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival and came up with the novel fundraiser.
“We have a new category this year, MixedMedia Painting, and I thought it would be good to run a workshop to teach artists what is involved,” Jess said.
“In this introductory workshop participants will produce an experimental body of work on paper that explores how to combine different art materials and techniques.
“It will include exploration of painting and drawing mediums, experimentation and abstraction and mark making techniques. It is a great way to learn how to combine different art supplies and learn traditional and modern painting and drawing skills.
“I’m happy to donate my time so that all the proceeds can go towards running of the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival this year, on Saturday 17th August.”
Jess said the art award entries would be released in June, with some exciting new categories, as well as some favourites.
“We will also be having some new initiatives like extended entry delivery days and times, to help people who are working during the normal delivery times,” she said.
Moore Park Beach Arts Inc President Trish Mears said the team was very excited that Jess was this year’s Art Awards Coordinator.
“Jess has been a long term supporter of the Art Awards and it’s great to have her on board to coordinate the Awards,” Trish said.
“We were over the moon when Jess suggested running the Mixed Media Painting workshop and offered to donate her time, so all the proceeds can go towards the running of the Arts Festival”.
Jess Newitt’s art workshop will run from 2 pm to 4 pm this Saturday at Moore Park Beach Community Centre.
The workshop fee of $60 includes all materials and delicious afternoon tea by the Moore Park Beach Arts Inc catering team.
