The decision to reintroduce user pay fees for domestic green waste was made in Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 30 July 2024 and aims to optimise waste management practices and operational costs.

Bundaberg Regional Council will reintroduce user pay fees for domestic green waste disposal at Bundaberg and Qunaba waste management facilities from 2 September.

The decision was made in Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 30 July 2024 and aims to optimise waste management practices and operational costs.

Water, Waste and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk said rising costs, including the State Government waste levy, and operational challenges had sparked the need to reevaluate this service.

“The introduction of free green waste disposal led to a significant increase in green waste processed at Council facilities, resulting in increased wait times when heading to the tip,” Cr Kirk said.

“By reinstating disposal fees at Bundaberg and Qunaba, Council anticipates a saving of approximately $380,000 annually while also improving overall efficiency when visiting a waste facility.”

“Free domestic green waste disposal at all other facilities remains.”

Green Solutions Wide Bay continues to provide free disposal of green waste which is turned into high-quality compost, turning green waste into valuable compost that benefits gardens, farms and the environment – supporting Council’s commitment to sustainability and waste reduction.

“This service is open seven days and is free for residents.”

  1. I am a keen recycler and have bags of plastic and metal lids, ring pulls etc. However I don’t know what to do with them. I take my clean jam jars size bottles to the SH shops and my silver tablet sheets to the chemist. Please enlighten me about depots for lids etc.

  2. all plastic, metal and glass jars and the lids can be recycled via the kerbside recycle bins the one thing they dont accept is oven glass and containers that had solvents in them
