Bundaberg Region sports stars Taryn Gollshewsky, Isaac Cooper, Shannan Davey and Rebecca Greiner have given their all on the Olympic stage for the 2024 Paris games.

Competing in discus, boxing, swimming and hockey, the talented locals not only represented Australia but also their hometown in the recent event.

Discus dynamo Taryn Gollshewsky threw a personal best of 62.36 metres in the women’s discus, securing 15th place.

Taking to social media, Taryn said it had been a long road to the Olympic Games but one that had been worth every step.

“The last PB was prior to me breaking my leg and I was told I would never represent my country again,” she said in an Instagram post.

“To come here three years later and fulfill my dream is huge.”

In the ring, boxing warrior Shannan Davey also showcased determination and courage in the men’s boxing competition.

Although he didn’t progress through the rounds, his relentless fighting spirit and unwavering resolve were evident in every bout.

Swimming sensation Isaac Cooper made waves in the men’s 4x100m medley relay, representing Bundaberg with pride and distinction.

While the team did not secure a podium finish, Isaac said he was thrilled to participate in the final.

“I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay team,” he said on Facebook.

Moving to the field, Hockeyroos hero Rebecca Greiner and her team put up a valiant fight in the quarter-finals, narrowly missing out on advancing after a tough match against China.

Rebecca’s standout moment came when she scored a crucial goal in their previous matchup against Great Britain, showcasing her skill and tenacity on the field.

Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn paid tribute to the local sports stars and said their achievements had brought immense pride to the Bundaberg Region.

“Their stories of dedication, hard work, and resilience resonate deeply within our community, reminding us all of the power of sports to unite and inspire,” she said.

“As we celebrate our Olympians, we eagerly anticipate the upcoming performances of our Paralympic representatives.

“We are incredibly proud to add these four names to the history books of Bundaberg, and we look forward to supporting and cheering on our athletes in their future endeavours.”
