The Bundaberg Region is set to unite for a vital cause as the community prepares to participate in R U OK? Day.
R U OK? Day is a national initiative designed to remind everyone to regularly connect with people around them and support those who may be struggling with life.
The annual day, supported by Bundaberg Regional Council, aims to spark conversations about mental health and encourages locals to connect with one another.
Community members are invited to attend activities held in Bundaberg, Childers and Gin Gin.
Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee encouraged friends, family and colleagues to check in on each other as she highlighted the importance of community involvement in R U OK? Day.
“R U OK? Day is a reminder to us all to foster ongoing and meaningful conversations about mental health,” Cr McPhee said.
“This way we ensure support is available every day, not just once a year.
“It’s about creating a culture of care where checking in becomes a regular part of our lives.”
Cr McPhee said R U OK? Day activities in Bundaberg included yard games at Buss Park with Council’s Community Development team on hand to provide the community with resources and helpful information.
“Mental health is an issue that affects us all, and it’s vital that we look out for one another,” she said.
“Council is proud to support R U OK? Day, and we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with their friends, family, and colleagues.
“The event emphasises the importance of asking ‘are you okay?’ while providing a supportive environment where open and honest conversations about mental well-being can take place.” Residents are encouraged to wear yellow on the day to show their support and participate in the various activities.
