The 2024 Bundaberg Region Australia Day Award winners Craig Holden, Carey Mitchell, Christian Lane-Krebs, Moore Park Beach Arts Inc and Unity Drummers Inc celebrate at a special ceremony.

Nominations are now open for Bundaberg Regional Council’s 2025 Australia Day Awards, offering the perfect opportunity to celebrate the local heroes who help shape the community.

Whether it’s a young leader, a dedicated senior or a passionate group these awards shine a spotlight on those who go above and beyond to enrich the region.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said the event was about acknowledging the incredible spirit of the community and encouraged residents to get involved.

“The Australia Day Awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the everyday heroes among us,” she said.

“The event recognises the extraordinary efforts of those who, through their actions, have strengthened the social fabric of our community and brought joy and value to the lives of others.”

The awards will be held in January 2025 with several categories open for nominations:

Citizen of the Year Award

This award recognizes an inspirational role model who has consistently demonstrated leadership and involvement in initiatives that contribute to the advancement of the Bundaberg Region.

Young Citizen of the Year Award

Open to nominees aged 25 years or younger on January 26, 2024, this award celebrates outstanding young residents who have shown excellence and leadership in their contributions to the community.

Senior Citizen of the Year Award

Recognising the vital role of seniors aged 65 years or older, this award honours those who continue to contribute to the community through their involvement, commitment, and knowledge sharing.

Community Group of the Year Award

This award acknowledges significant contributions by community groups or non-profit organizations that have enhanced the welfare of people, quality of life, or the arts, sciences, and environment within the Bundaberg Region.

Mayor Blackburn urged residents to take the opportunity to recognise deserving candidates.

“We all know someone or a group who makes a difference in our lives and in the community,” she said

“Now is the time to shine a light on their achievements by nominating them for an Australia Day Award.”

Nominations can now be submitted online up until 5 December.
