Bundaberg sleepbus donations to be matched

Bundaberg Sleepbus
The Bundaberg sleepbus will provide safe, temporary overnight accommodation to some of the most vulnerable people in the Bundaberg Region. The project is currently two-thirds of the way to being fully funded.

With a desire to see the Bundaberg sleepbus up and running to provide accommodation to vulnerable locals as soon as possible, an anonymous donor from Woodgate has agreed to match all donations dollar-for-dollar.

The Bundaberg sleepbus will provide safe, temporary overnight accommodation to some of the most vulnerable people in the Bundaberg Region.

The project is currently two-thirds of the way to being fully funded.

Sleepbus Founder, Simon Rowe, said he was excited about the donor’s willingness to see the Bundaberg sleepbus project through to completion.

“The Bundaberg sleepbus is so close to being ready, although we’ve got some fundraising hurdles to cross before it’s ready to help Bundaberg Region locals in need,” Simon said.

“When a Woodgate resident reached out to say she’d match every donation towards the Bundaberg sleepbus dollar-for-dollar, I couldn’t contain my excitement.

“Anyone who donates will have their impact doubled – and that will make a huge difference.”

Homelessness and housing community advocate, Maria Ebert said getting the Bundaberg sleepbus completed and operational was crucial.

“Homelessness is a growing concern in our region and we’re thankful to sleepbus for recognising that and providing a practical solution to help,” Mrs Ebert said.

“I’m encouraging everyone who is able, to support this worthy cause to provide safe nights to locals currently sleeping rough.”

Bundaberg Regional Council Deputy Mayor Tracey McPhee encouraged residents and businesses who are able to help financially, to do so.

“There has never been a better time for us to dig deep to support this great cause,” Cr McPhee said.

“For donations to be doubled will really speed up the delivery of the Bundaberg sleepbus and get our region’s most vulnerable into temporary and safe accommodation sooner.”

  1. What a bloody waste of money, fix the roads instead. That’s where people are getting killed every day.

  2. The Sleepbus is a fantastic idea and has helped many people in other cities.
As for the critical comment, the bus is bought & built with donations; roads are the responsibility of councils & state govts.

There are more homeless people than ever, not just in Aust but in the UK, Europe, and especially the USA plus most of the western world because of rising costs, families no longer living in 3 generational homes and the downside of technology which has greatly reduced employment.
Other people in the world are homeless because their countries are at war.

  3. How much will this cost, how many people will it house ?
Probably not the best outcome for dollars spent.
