The region’s largest hotel development in more than 20 years will receive a 100% discount from Bundaberg Regional Council after revising its application to increase its room capacity.
The MVP Airport Hotel, to be situated at Airport Drive, Kensington is being supported by the Projects of Regional Significance (PORS) initiative.
The scheme offers discounts of up to 100% off infrastructure projects for developments which have a value in excess of $15 million, will provide more than 50 additional direct jobs or that Council considers would have a special community or environmental benefit.
At its ordinary meeting on 28 May 2024, Council approved the initial PORS application for a hotel at 45 Airport Drive, offering the developer a 100% discount on infrastructure charges – valued at $654,292.46.
This incentive was contingent upon the development being completed by 31 May 2026.
However, in order to make the project more viable, the applicant determined that a slight increase in the number of rooms—raising the total from 85 to 97—was necessary.
The minor change application was recently approved by Council, along with the confirmation that the 100% infrastructure charge discount will apply to the revised project, which is now valued at $754,952.88.
The completion date of the project has also been pushed a further 12 months.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said the project was a prime example of how the PORS program fostered major developments that had long-term economic benefits for the region.
“The PORS program continues to play a crucial role in encouraging significant investments in Bundaberg,” she said.
“This project, along with others supported by the program, is helping to drive local growth and development.
“By extending the completion date and maintaining the financial incentives, Council remains committed to ensuring the success of this important project and its positive impact on the region.”
Project details
The MVP Airport Hotel will offer a three-storey facility with 97 rooms, a pool, restaurant, bar, conference room, and gym.
This development represents the first large-scale hotel of its kind in over 20 years, catering to the growing demand for quality accommodation in the region.
The hotel’s proximity to the airport makes it a strategically located asset, offering visitors modern amenities in a prime location.

Project/site manager residing in Bundaberg happy to assist
I am at a loss to understand the 100% infrastructure charge discount of $754,952.88 that will apply to this project. Does this mean that Bundaberg Regional Council misses out on this large amount of revenue and will it no doubt have to be picked up by the ratepayers somewhere along the way.
So are these going to get a 100% discount as well?

Confusing why it is necessary to have such a huge hotel next to an airport that only fly to Brisbane and nothing larger.
^It’s also near the Childers road entrance into town & where the ring road begins on that side into town where motels sometimes have the need for 100+ more rooms already without growth ontop.
That will be why there is also an even bigger Motel planned by brothers sports club in the same area.
