UPDATE: Due to impending weather, this event has been cancelled.

The Childers Neighbourhood Centre will be celebrating International Women’s Day with a breakfast event hosted with Isis District High School on Friday 7 March.

School leaders will MC the event which will take place at the Isis Club and include a musical performance from the school’s string ensemble as well as a talk from guest speaker Sue McCoy, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Childers.

Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said the Childers International Women’s Day event would explore this year’s global theme of Accelerate Action.

“International Women’s Day marks the achievements of women around the world and this breakfast is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that locally,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“This year’s international theme is Accelerate Action which focusses on the collective drive towards gender equality, and we welcome everyone to come along and take part in the discussion.

“Events like these are a great way for the community to gather together and spend time talking and supporting each other.”

The International Women’s Day breakfast will be preceded by a morning run led by the Childers Run Club, with participants encouraged to wear pink to raise awareness.

Runners should meet at the Peanut Van on Childers Road by 6 am.
