Stamp enthusiasts from across the state are getting ready for the next Bundaberg Philatelic Society Stamp Fair, with the whole community invited to get involved.

Secretary Joy Boys shares what the event is all about below:

Can you provide an overview of the event and what inspired you to organise it?

This is an annual event that has been going on for 55 years.

The fair attracts stamp collectors from all over south-east Queensland and north to Gladstone and Rockhampton.

The public are also invited to attend.

Some may have old collections which they can speak to a dealer about and get an appraisal.

For those wishing to start collecting or expand their collection there is a bargain table and visiting clubs bring their circuit books to enable attendees to purchase stamps.

An auction is held at 1 pm when great bargains can be made.

How do you envision this event benefiting the local community?

We get visitors from all areas of south-east Queensland, so Bundaberg is promoted as a place to visit.

What is the history of your organisation, and how has it evolved over the years?

The Bundaberg Philatelic Society was formed in 1968 and has provided a venue for stamp collectors to exchange ideas and information, and to promote interest and knowledge of the subject of philately.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month from 11 am to 2 pm at the Family Centre, Kensington Street (beside the Multiplex).

Club Circuit Books of stamps are available for members who may buy items for their collection.

Members can also sell their surplus material through the Circuit Books, with the Society retaining 10% on sales.

A small philatelic library is maintained for the use of members.

An annual Stamp Fair is held every March when stamp collectors from all over the south-east of the state and north to Rockhampton visit to exchange views and ideas.

Our members also visit fairs held by other clubs in the region throughout the year.

How can community members get involved?

New members are welcome at The Bundaberg Philatelic Society.

    Membership – $10 adults, $15 family, $5 juniors (under 16)
