Before heading out onto the beach club trainers checked over everyone’s cars, recovery points and recovery gear to make sure what people had was correct for their particular vehicle.

With everything checked and in order, we covered the theory of performing a safe Snatch Strap recovery.

With the theory out of the way, it was time to do some practice.

We headed onto the beach and looked for some soft sand to get bogged in.

This proved harder than expected but made do with what we found.

One of the smallest vehicles in the group was tasked with recovering one of the bigger vehicles, the little Suzuki Jimny having a go at recovering a GQ Patrol wagon.

Proof that, if done correctly and with the right gear, it is possible.

We then swapped around and gave the newer members a go at practicing how to perform a safe recovery so they could get the feel of how their cars reacted to doing a recovery and being recovered.

We then churned up a small patch to get some loose sand and dove over it a few times with highway tyre pressures.

Tyre pressures were then lowered, and driving over the same section showed what the difference lower tyre pressures has in the sand.

A stop at the Burrum Point Campground to show the members what is available at the secluded campsite was also a perfect spot for lunch.

After lunch a quick drive towards Walkers Point and down Heidkes Road and through a number of water crossings lead us out to Woodgate Road again to air our tyres back up and head home.

The day was a great way for the young and not so young to learn something new and build their confidence when 4wding.
