IWC is launching a new initiative that brings reconciliation to life through the power of art, inviting primary school students to share their perspectives in a creative and meaningful way.

More than just a competition, the IWC Reconciliation Art Project (artproject.iwc.org.au) is a platform for young voices to be heard, understood, and valued.

Timed to coincide with National Reconciliation Week (May 27 – June 3), this project highlights the week’s importance while reinforcing that reconciliation is more than just a moment in time, it’s an everyday practice that builds a more united future.

This year’s Reconciliation theme, Bridging Now to Next, encourages students to reflect on the lessons of the past and the strength we carry into the future.

Through their artwork, they can express what reconciliation means to them, whether it’s about connection, respect, shared history, or a vision for a more inclusive tomorrow.

How to enter:

  1. Create an artwork that reflects the theme “Bridging Now to Next.”
  2. Take a photo of your artwork.
  3. Submit it online via artproject.iwc.org.au
  4. Check that you have permission from a parent or guardian before entering.

Full details and terms and conditions are online: artproject.iwc.org.au

Students have the chance to win amazing prizes, sponsored by our local business community including:

  1. First prize: Surface Go4 10.5” with stylus and keyboard sponsored by Queensland Computers (valued at $1288)
  2. Second prize: Kate Victoria Creative ten-week art class for a child, sponsored by Kate Victoria Creative (valued at $295)
  3. Third prize: $250 Art Plus voucher sponsored by Art Plus (valued at $250)

Plus, 10 shortlisted entries will have their original artworks featured in IWC’s Reconciliation Through Art Exhibition, where the public will vote for their favourite creations.

IWC has always been more than a health and wellbeing provider.

Established as an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation, it made the intentional decision to open its doors to all—demonstrating that true reconciliation is about shared experiences, not division.

In that spirit, this art challenge invites students from all backgrounds to explore what reconciliation means to them, not just culturally, but personally, socially, and emotionally.

Reconciliation isn’t just about history, it’s about how we live and work together today and into the future.

Art has a special way of helping people feel safe in expressing their thoughts and emotions.

This initiative gives young people the space to contribute to the conversation in a way that feels natural to them.

Key dates:

  • Entries close: 27 April 2025
  • Public exhibition: 19 May – 24 May 2025
