Two Bundaberg businesses have been selected as part of CommBank’s Matildas on Loan national advertising campaign, celebrating small businesses across Australia.

Macadamias Australia and Smile Care Hub have been named two of the 50 winners of the competition which will see the Matildas support them in an advertising campaign aimed at backing small businesses around Australia.

Each of the 50 competition winners will receive an advertisement for their business alongside the CommBank Matildas, which will be distributed by the Commonwealth Bank via billboards, radio and CommBank Branches as part of a national advertising campaign.

Each winner will receive a tailored campaign to promote their business within their respective communities.

Macadamias Australia

Managing Director at Macadamias Australia Janelle Gerry said the collaboration was well suited to their recent operational expansion.

“As a family owned and operated business, we know the importance of teamwork, a positive attitude and maintaining a high standard – all qualities which are embodied by the CommBank Matildas,” Janelle said.

“This year we have expanded our operations to offer an extended range of premium delicious macadamia retail products, all grown locally in Bundaberg.

“This collaboration with CommBank is perfect for us to establish credibility as we enter a new and exciting phase of growth, both in Australia and Internationally.”

Smile Care Hub

Founder and Director of Smile Care Hub Kym Shires said the support of the CommBank Matildas was a fantastic opportunity for their young business to connect with more families.

“For a business still in its infancy, the resilience and teamwork of the CommBank Matildas embodies the spirit I hope to bring forth as a new business owner,” Kym said.

“This opportunity backs our mission of making early dental care fun and accessible for young children, while highlighting the importance of building strong oral health habits from an early age.

“I’m excited for the future as Smile Care Hub continues to grow and provide invaluable services to families throughout our community.”

Supporting local businesses

The announcement of 50 businesses selected as part of the national CommBank advertising campaign comes as new research shows nearly 90% of Australian small to medium enterprises (SMEs) expect to continue to face challenges in 2025.

In Queensland, 69% of Queensland-based SMEs said they felt optimistic about the next 12 months, compared to the national average of 71%.

CommBank’s General Manager of Small Business Banking for Queensland David Coote said it showed the resilience of Australian small businesses which remained brave in the face of continued economic uncertainty.

“It’s been incredible to see the overwhelming response from thousands of Aussie small businesses who entered the competition,” David said.

“We are thrilled to be able to support Macadamias Australia and Smile Care Hub in this way and I hope this campaign will create a powerful impact for them, and an unforgettable moment in their history.”

CommBank Matildas midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross and goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln said there were many similarities between playing in a sporting team and owning a small business.

“You have to show up every day and we’re both under quite a lot of pressure,” Kyra said.

“Slow and steady wins the race and that goes for both – it takes a lot of hard work, and it’ll take time as well,” Chloe added.

“Making sure that you have that vision, and you keep working towards that goal.

“Setbacks will come but it’s how you can overcome it – little steps each day.”
