IMPACT hosts Alcohol and Other Drug workshops

IMPACT Community Services will deliver community workshops to strengthen Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Treatment Services across the region.
Leading the AOD workshops will be Jannene Thorn, IMPACT’s Mental Health Manager, and Nathan Spruce, General Manager of Innovation.

IMPACT Community Services will deliver community workshops in Bundaberg and Childers as part of a broader initiative to strengthen Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Treatment Services across the Bundaberg-Hervey Bay region.

Funded by the Australian Government, this initiative includes the codesign of a placed-based response to support to individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use.

These workshops are part of a series being rolled out across the region, ensuring that every voice is heard, and every community has the opportunity to shape the services that matter most.

Leading the sessions are Jannene Thorn, IMPACT’s Mental Health Manager, and Nathan Spruce, General Manager of Innovation.

“We’re creating a space where people can be open, be heard, and feel supported,” said Ms Thorn.

“This isn’t just about services – it’s about people, families, and futures. Every story shared helps shape a stronger, more compassionate response.”

Mr Spruce said the workshops were an essential part of building community-led, culturally responsive services.

“They’re about collaboration, connection, and creating change that starts with the people who live it every day,” he said.

Who should attend:

  • Individuals with lived experience of substance abuse
  • Family members, friends and carers
  • Community members and advocates
  • Professionals in the AOD and mental health sectors

By attending, participants will:

  • Share their experiences and contribute to service design
  • Connect with others who understand the journey
  • Help shape treatment services that reflect the real needs of our community

“Substance use affects lives in deeply personal ways, and through these workshops, we hope to spark hope, build resilience, and empower communities to be part of the solution,” Ms Thorn said.

If you or your group would prefer a smaller setting, IMPACT also offers the option to arrange online, small group or one-on-one meetings.

Additionally, two workshops will also be held on the Fraser Coast.

In partnership with Indigenous Workstars, IMPACT is also committed to delivering culturally safe and community-driven services. This collaboration ensures that the voices and needs of First Nations people and other priority populations are respected and reflected.
