Woodgate Bowls Club

Tuesday 20 May 2025: Ladies day

What an exciting day we had out on the green today, social triples and not one but three games in the Ladies B grade Singles Championship.

In order of when the game finished –

Game one:

Marilyn Mullins had a hard fought win over Judy Stanley.

The score on this game didn’t reflect the high standard of play!

Game two:

Lesley Christensen had a equally hard fought game over Barb Clarke.

Barb, playing in her first ever singles match, played an amazing game!

Game three:

Anne Sleep had a win over Raels Cahill.

Again a great game played over 26 ends!

Special thanks to Marjo Greiner who stood as Umpire for the day.

Also Gail Lenz, Robyn Bishop and Gloria Newby who all gave up their afternoon of bowls to mark our games. Many thanks Ladies!

Wednesday 21 May 2025: Mens day

Numbers are building with the first of our southern friends arriving for the winter season.

Thursday 22 May 2025: Oyster and Fee’s day

Oyster and Fee are both still away representing us at the State Championships.

We also had the semi final of the Ladies Open Triples which resulted in a win to team Sylvia over team Gail.

Competition

All competition draws are on the boards and members are requested to arrange games by mutual agreement where possible.

Championship Singles Semi-Final: Cameron Walker def Brendan Whalley 25-16.

Championship Pairs Semi-Final: Tim Clark, Des Kemp def Ossy Osborn, Malcolm Juillerat 25-23 after scores were locked at 23-23 following 20 ends.

Members are reminded that when playing Competition or marking Singles you MUST be in full Club uniform.

This includes blue shorts/trousers and correct bowls footwear.

If out of uniform, you will not be permitted to play/mark.

Champion of Champion Fours

Good bowling and good luck to our Burnett Fours team of Cal Toft, Glen Hayes, Jamieson Morgan and Greg ‘Jacko’ Jackson as they will be contesting the District C of C Fours playoffs this weekend.

They will play at Woodgate on Saturday afternoon Vs The Waves with the winners advancing to the semi finals on Sunday which will be played at Moore Park.

City Vs Country

The annual City Vs Country bowls day will be held at Burnett on Sunday 15 June.

Burnett will be submitting 4 teams to play on this day with the teams being selected by the Club selectors.

This day will be used as a trial for players interested in being selected in the 2026 Bundaberg District Sides team.

Selected teams will be posted on the noticeboard shortly.

Visitors are most welcome on all playing days.

Club news

Club opening hours are – Monday (Club closed), Tuesday 10 am – 5.30 pm, Wednesday 11 am – 9 pm, Thursday 2 pm – 9 pm, Friday 10 am – 9 pm, Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (10 pm for Functions) Sunday Bowls Days 9 am – 2 pm.

Friday 30 May – the Goose Club raffle will be drawn at 7 pm – tickets are $1 each with 15+ prizes to be won.

Tickets can be purchased from the bar or bought on the night.

The members draw will be conducted after the Goose Club draw – members must be present at the draw to claim the $290.

Live entertainment on Friday evening will be provided by Bevan Spiers.

So come down to the Club for a great night out with the chance to win some cash and raffle prizes.

The Bistro will be operating on a full menu, so come along and try something from the new menu.
